Message Navi Vol. 2 #BestOfSaturn

Online dating on the Saturn? Sort of! In 1998, SIMS and Dreamcube released the second Message Navi “game” in Japan.

The disc is essentially a catalogue of more than 1,000 real-life singles in Japan, complete with bios and stats, who today would be in their late 40s to 50s. It’s augmented by a cosplay section, tour of the SEGA Joypolis, and other curiosities. The “game” was very cheap upon release, coming in at about the same price as the Satakore budget line of titles.

Absolutely a product of its place and time, it serves as an example of how the Saturn was a cultural staple in Japan, in contrast to its perception in the West.

Peter Malek

A Saturn fan since the beginning, Peter plays Saturn almost exclusively. For Peter, Saturn represents a moment in time where 2D games were at their best, 3D was just rising, and fascinating gaming 'firsts' were commonplace.  There are very few Saturn games that Peter cannot find some enjoyment in!
