The creator of the Satiator released two new menus over the weekend that improve how the optical drive emulator handles folders for Saturn games that use multiple discs.
Professor Abrasive uploaded Menu 70 to his device’s official wiki website Saturday. It fixes an error in how the Satiator sees subfolders within a game’s folder.
“[Doesn’t] interpret numbered folders as a multidisc configuration,” the changelog says of Menu 70’s fix. “This would result in a ‘no dot in filename’ error if you had a folder containing subfolders named ‘XYZ Disc 1,’ ‘XYZ Disc 2’ etc.”
Since initial support for multidisc games was added to the Satiator with Menu 68 in September last year, users have been required to place all of the files for a game’s discs together into the same folder. When someone would place a game’s discs into individual subfolders within the game’s folder, the Satiator would return an error.
But Menu 70 was only a temporary fix. Just a day later, a more comprehensive solution arrived when Professor Abrasive uploaded Menu 71 to the official wiki on Sunday. It enables support for using subfolders for each disc of a game that uses multiple discs.
“This should suit the natural way many people set up their collections,” the changelog says.
The official wiki offers this example of how a two-disc game using a subfolder for each disc might be set up:

And the site gives this example for including all the files of both of the game’s discs in the same folder:

The Satiator is an optical drive emulator that plugs into the VCD slot in the back of the Saturn. It takes over the console’s boot sequence to play games off of an SD card. It originally released in December 2020 and can be bought here.
SHIRO’s own PandaMonium interviewed Professor Abrasive earlier this year about how he feels about the state of his device, what features he’s planning and his thoughts on apparent clone devices appearing on AliExpress.
