X Japan Virtual Shock 001 #BestOfSaturn

Published by SEGA and released in late 1995, X Japan Virtual Shock 001 can best be described as an FMV walking simulator where the player takes on the role of a photographer.

Your task is to take pictures and short video clips of the bandmates of X Japan, a real Japanese band, and piece together a promotional video for the band. The game is simple and the draw, of course, is the tie-in with the band.

Somewhat reminiscent of Digital Pictures’ SEGA CD ‘make my own video’ games, this particular title is an excellent slice of mid-90s Japan Saturn gaming that, understandably, never made it out west.

A Saturn fan since the beginning, Peter plays Saturn almost exclusively. For Peter, Saturn represents a moment in time where 2D games were at their best, 3D was just rising, and fascinating gaming 'firsts' were commonplace.  There are very few Saturn games that Peter cannot find some enjoyment in!
