Willy Wombat #BestOfSaturn

A total curiosity, Hudson’s Willy Wombat materialized in mid-1997. A 3D-ish action adventure game, you control the wombat across various landscapes, collecting gems as you go.

The best way to imagine how this plays is to think Grandia, as an action platformer — that’s how the 3D works. Willy jumps, slashes, and shoots a boomerang-style weapon to negotiate his environments and dispatch bad guys, who turn into little skulls to mark where they died.

Controls are somewhat stiff, and the story is written in Japanese… but the voice acting is all English! A slick presentation and a very interesting link to Crash Bandicoot rounds out this very interesting game. Give it a go!
