The Return of SEGA Mania Magazine

Started back in July of 2021, Sega Mania represented a return to physical print magazines for SEGA fans and it kicked off a bit of an avalanche of similarly SEGA focused mags, including our own SHIRO! Magazine. Its inaugural issue was an instant sell-out and saw three reprints! The folks at SEGA Mania went on to produce 6 more issues selling nearly 10,000 copies, before a rather sudden and unexpected farewell in December 2022.

While a massive passion project, the magazine operated on near paper-thin margins (typical of fan-produced content like this), and when combined with a subsequent decline in its monthly subscription base, the hard decision to halt production had to be made. To see the brilliant work they accomplished, their back-catalogue is currently available in the form of DRM free PDF downloads.

However, in an attempt to bring back the mag for the fans, SEGA Mania announced on July 17th that it has turned to Kickstarter in order to fund the production of Issue 8, and it looks to be currently 84% funded!

This 80-page issue will cover some of the finest titles from the Mega Drive’s final years in addition to some of the earlier Saturn releases, and it will be published in the form of a high quality lithographic print and digital .PDF download. Issue 8 is already 50% done, and provided the Kickstarter is fully funded, it’s expected to release in about 6-8 weeks from that point.
