Vinyl records of the arcade and Saturn soundtracks for Virtua Fighter 2 are available for preorder now, the production company announced Friday.
Chicago-based record label Cartridge Thunder says on its product page that it expects to ship the US$46 soundtrack this August.
The product page also says that newly written liner notes by Takayuki Nakamura, who composed music for Virtua Fighter 1, 2, and 3, will be included with the vinyl. “Nakamura-san has provided a rich history of SEGA sound production and an inside look at the music of Virtua Fighter 1 and 2,” the page says.
The release includes three total records to include the entirety of the arcade and Saturn versions’ soundtracks — two LPs and a 7-inch disc. “As we were keen to include all of the music produced for Virtua Fighter 2, two of the game’s themes (Jacky and Sarah) are presented on an included 7-inch record,” Cartridge Thunder’s website says.
All of it has been newly remastered by Justin Perkins, an audio engineer with more than 20 years of experience working with artists like Shania Twain, Busta Rhymes and Asia.
“This was a very fun one to master,” Perkins said on X after preorders went live.
A post on X from Cartridge Thunder pointed out that the gatefold artwork is original to this release and it’s officially licensed by Sega.
While North Americans can buy the VF2 soundtrack directly from Cartridge Thunder or from Mondo, those in other countries have options, too. It’s being sold in Japan through Disk Union for 8,250 yen, in Europe through Black Screen Records for €48 and in Australia through Pixel Crib for AUD$89.99.
This is Cartridge Thunder’s latest production of a Saturn-related vinyl soundtrack after making one for the first Virtua Fighter last year and one for The House of the Dead 1 and 2 in 2021.
