Gunbird is a Psykio arcade conversion released exclusively in Japan very late in 1995. One or two players choose from five characters and blast their way through this vertical scrolling shmup.

The goal revolves around finding the four pieces of a mirror that can show the location of a genie who grant wishes… but it’s the action that matters. Each fighter has a main and a secondary weapon, which can also be charged for a stronger blast.

The visuals are hand-drawn and the bullets are hellish. Featuring tate mode for purists, this is a good one!

Fun Fact!: This actually was translated and released in 2003 in the US on the PlayStation under the title, “Mobile Light Force”. It features possibly the #WorstOf cover art of all time:
