Here are a few of the smaller Saturn-related stories from my metaphorical reporter’s notebook from this week.
Spanish translation of Nanatsu shows signs of life
The person translating Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari into Spanish just made his first blog update in four years to say that he’s trying to resume the project.
In the Aug. 6 blog post, he includes a handful of screenshots showing off the translation.
Mandanga has been working on the project since 2007. In one of his updates from 2019, he estimated that his translation was about 72 percent complete.
Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari is a sidescrolling adventure game published by Enix exclusively in Japan on the Saturn in November 1997. Players control a dragon looking for his friend, who has disappeared without a trace in the fantastical world in which they live.
The Spanish-speaking Saturn community got a couple high-profile fan translation patches just last month in Resident Evil and Deep Fear.
Uncle From Another World gacha comes to PSO2 New Genesis
The most Sega fan service-filled anime ever, Uncle From Another World, is collaborating with Sega’s latest iteration of Phantasy Star Online 2, New Genesis.
A new AC scratch ticket — a gacha, essentially — was added to the online action RPG Wednesday. It includes costumes, hairstyles and other accessories from the anime’s characters that can be used by players to dress up their own avatars.
There are some cool general Sega and Saturn things in the gacha, too, like “personal holograms” — objects you can spawn in the world for the fun of it that stuck around until you leave the area — of Sega’s logo and all of its consoles.
Or you can turn your character’s head into a Saturn, or put a Saturn controller in their hand.
The Sega consoles are also available as “build part” decorations for the game’s Creative Space, where players each have an area to let their imaginations run wild creating buildings and changing terrain.
Magic Knight Rayearth anime is on YouTube
TMS Entertainment has put full episodes of the Magic Knight Rayearth anime on its YouTube channel featuring the English dub. The playlist is here.
TMS did the same thing for the first 40 episodes of its Slam Dunk anime in the leadup to the U.S. theatrical release of The First Slam Dunk.
They’ve also put up the first four episodes of Magic Knight Rayearth in Portuguese.
For those who’d rather watch in the original Japanese voice over with English dubs, that version is available on Crunchyroll.
Sega developed and published Saturn and Game Gear games based on Magic Knight Rayearth in 1995 and 1994, respectively. An English localization of the Saturn version was the console’s final North American release in December 1998.
