Dreamcast Roguelike Shiren the Wanderer Gaiden Fan Translation In The Works!

Just recently, Twitter user SharkSnack released a Fan Translation demo for the game Shiren the Wanderer Gaiden: Asuka Kenzan on the SEGA Dreamcast. Announcing his intentions to translate this amazing title back in November of 2022:

For those of you unfamiliar with this game, you may be more familiar with it’s other roguelike spinoff series, Pokemon: Mystery Dungeon. Yes, this is an entry into the legendary Mystery Dungeon series, and a spinoff in itself!

Shiren the Wanderer, like the title suggests, is a spinoff of the N64 title Shiren the Wanderer 2: Oni Invasion! Shiren Castle! Where you play the Shiren team member Asuka, investigating why the Koga Ninja army has began attacking travelers, instead of the monsters they originally were intended to fight.

SharkSnack is no stranger to the Shiren the Wanderer series, where they are also working on Shiren the Wanderer DS2 in between the work on the Dreamcast title:

Not only are they aiming for a fan translation of the title, but SharkSnack has also been working on implement missing features in the Dreamcast title, such as adding the PC exclusive Mon Boxes into the game:

Digging deeper, they also found content left off the cutting room floor, such as a debugging room left in the game’s code:

While there probably won’t be much use in the actual game, it’s cool to see they were able to show it off after all these year.

No date has been set for the full fan translated release, but we’re hoping you’ll be able to get your hands on the full game soon!

You can download the demo patch here, and patch it using Derek Pascarella’s amazing Universal Dreamcast Patcher.
