How to use the Titan One and Wingman adapters to invite someone to play on real Saturn hardware using Parsec:
What you’ll need:
–Titan One adapter ($70 new – $30-40 used):
–Brook Saturn/Dreamcast Wingman Super Converter ($45 new):
(Other Wingmans work too, also available for Mega Drive/PC Engine, PS1/PS2, SNES/NES and Neo Geo)
-A low latency capture card setup (I use OSSC/scart cable with the Elgato 4K60 Pro on OBS software)
–Saturn extension cable (optional, but the Saturn plug on my wingman is a little thick and hard to plug in, so the extension cable makes that easier and gives you more length).
Once you have all the required gear, you’ll need to download the Titan One software – Gtuner Pro (https://www.consoletuner.com/titan-one-downloads/)
Open GTuner Pro as Admin and update both your software and firmware under Tools !! DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR TITAN ONE OR INTERUPT THE PROCESS DURING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE !!
Now go to Plugins>Plugin Manager
Pick MaxAim DI and install (if it freezes while installing close out and relaunch as Admin).
Once that’s setup download Parsec (https://parsec.app/) and make an account. Send a friend request to whom you’d like to join you (you’ll need to confirm your email before they let you do this). After that have them request to join your pc. Once you accept their request in Parsec they’ll see your screen, but they can only send controller inputs.
You can also go into Parsec’s settings and change some stuff for latency, I turned off V-sync under Client.
Also, if you playing with someone with older hardware they’ll need you to change FPS (found under Host) from 60 to 30. I keep it at 60 on default.
You can even run at a lower resolution as well as select a lower “Bandwidth (Megabits)” number if needed.
Now plug the Titan One’s usb mini cable (the one that comes with it, plugs on the side) into your pc.
Go back to Gtuner Pro and pick Plugins>Maxaim DI>File>Create Empty Layout (I named my Saturn).
Go to Direct Input>DI Settings
Choose their PC’s controller from the list (if it isn’t showing up have them hit a button on their controller, this should get your pc to see it). I tested it out with my Raphnet-tech Sega Saturn controller to USB adapter, worked like a charm with my 3D pad.
Double check that it’s enabled under “Direct Input”.
Final step, you need to right click on all the buttons and pick “Input Direct Catch”, and they’ll need to push all the corresponding buttons on their end.
Saturn layout on the button mapping diagram (Start and Directions are what you’d expect):
X/A=A
Circle/B=B
R1=C
Square/X=X
Triangle/Y=Y
L1=Z
L2=L
R2=R
MaxAim DI will have to remain open in the background
After that right click your live stream and go to full screen. Don’t worry about hiding the mouse, they can’t see it anyways. If they lose controls at any point, go back to Direct Input on MaxAim DI and double check that it’s enabled.
Now plug the Wingman into the Saturn and boot it up, and plug the Titan One into the Wingman after the console is on. This is important, if the Titan One is already plugged in before you boot up it sends power to the wingman and screws up rapid button presses (which makes it impossible to double tap run in games like Elevator Action Returns). Interestingly, you can swap the wingman between the Saturn ports at any point while playing and there are no issues, only when booting up do you have to do this.
And that’s it, time to start “living in the city” with some Sonic R online!
