This is a journey through time analyzing the history of Virtua Cop, its Saturn port, and revelations on why Sega’s 5th gen console performed the way it did. You will see source material that you cannot find anywhere else — woven into a tale straight from the trenches of 90’s video game development.
This was not a solo project. While it is true that I wrote and edited this 4+ hour piece, it would not be close to half of what it is without SamIAm and the tremendous help from other friends across the Saturn community. SamIAm is the translator working on the Princess Crown English patch (yes, he is still working on it). He translated a massive amount of Japanese source material for this video. Pimpeaux contributed mountains of her time to release date research for the overall series, sales data, and other assets used throughout. My partners with SHIRO! Media Group lent their time to QA, and their voices to some magazine interviews. Other voice overs were provided by the likes of SlappyBag9, Jordan Ryan of GBATemp, Greg Lacquerware, and Tit0 from Hall of Game. The SHIRO! crew consists of myself, Patrick Traynor, David Lee (SaturnDave), Peter Malek and Ben Wallace.
Homebrew developers XL2 and TrekkiesUnite118 helped me with understanding the inner machinations of SGL and proofreading parts of my script that go over technical details.
