New Saturn MiSTer Core Update (8/11/22)

Back in May, the first version of the Saturn core dropped, and while it couldn’t really play much beyond CubeCat, it was amazing that it worked in the first place. Finally, a real shot at having a hardware accurate representation of the Saturn for years to come!

A couple days ago, an update was released for the Saturn MiSTer core by srg320. This update improves performance in the core, and adds a bit more compatibility with certain titles.

I recently booted up the core for testing, and while I didn’t have much luck running my test games (Magic Knight Rayearth, Princess Crown, and Bulk Slash), apparently many other games had better luck running, as demonstrated in this video below by Video Game Esoterica:

If you’d like to join in and test it for yourself, you can join the MiSTer Discord here and download either the dual ram or single ram Saturn Core.

The MiSTer core has come a long way in such a short time, and we’re excited to see what it has in store next!
