House of the Dead Remake Arrives on More Platforms

The remake of The House of the Dead didn’t take long to hit other platforms after it debuted on the Switch in early April. On Thursday, Forever Entertainment published the on-rails shooter on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, GOG and Stadia.

As with the Switch release, House of the Dead is available for a 10% launch discount — or a 20% discount if Forever Entertainment’s other Saturn-based remake, Panzer Dragoon, is owned on the same platform.

The PlayStation version offers its 10% discount to PlayStation Plus subscribers only. You can find that version here. And the Xbox version here. And the Steam version here. And the GOG version here.

The House of the Dead is one of the most well-known light gun shooters that was ported from the arcades to the Saturn. While there’s no modern light gun support in the remake — players aim with the analog stick — the Switch version does use the Joycons’ gyroscope functions to simulate a light gun, and the publisher announced Move controller support coming to the PlayStation 4 version in a future update.

The remake, developed by Forever Entertainment’s subsidiary MegaPixel, recreates the arcade original from the ground up. While retaining the original gameplay and level layouts, it sports completely new graphics as well as different music and voice acting.

The remake brings a few new features to the table: a 3D model viewer that details enemy weak points, a photo mode, a horde mode, several selectable difficulty options and online leaderboards.

The game is only available digitally on all platforms — with the exception of a physical edition for the Switch, which is being printed by Forever Limited and can be preordered here.

Forever Entertainment published a MegaPixel-developed remake of Saturn exclusive Panzer Dragoon in 2020 for modern platforms including the Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, GOG, Stadia and Luna.

They’ve announced plans to remake the sequels to Panzer Dragoon and House of the Dead, as well as Magical Drop 6, which would be the latest in a line of puzzle games that saw three entries on the Saturn in Japan only.
