Sonic Origins – A Collection of Four Original Sonic Games Drops in June!

After the success of Sonic Mania, and the recent success of the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 film, SEGA has finally announced a Sonic collection for the latest gen consoles!

The games in the collection will include:

  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (With Sonic & Knuckles)
  • Sonic CD

It won’t be just a port however, but include extra content as well, such as choosing between a classic and anniversary mode, achievements, game modes, and much more!

In the classic mode, it will be just as you remembered, with the original aspect ratio and all the content that goes with it.

In anniversary mode, the game will include widescreen support, infinite lives, and potentially other new content included.

One of the coolest features to me, is the inclusion of new 2D cutscenes within the games, and the ability to play as Tails, Sonic, and Knuckles in all of the games (Sans Sonic CD).

The 2D cutscenes make me wonder if they’ll replace the original Sonic CD intro with the same animation style as the newly added cutscenes in the collection, or use a newly remastered original intro.

This will also be the first time in many years Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will be getting a release, and over ten years in Sonic CD’s case…

Speaking on Sonic 3 and Sonic CD, it’s unknown currently how each soundtrack will be handled, as Sonic 3 has a very controversial history with it’s soundtrack, and in Sonic CD’s case, has two completely different soundtracks.

There are also a lot of questions that need to be asked about the collection, such as if Hidden Palace Zone from the iOS port of Sonic 2 will be included, if you can switch between the soundtracks of Sonic 3 and CD, and how many of the features will be implemented.. Hopefully these will be answered by the time the game drops.

If you’d like to pre-order the collection, you can drop some cash at their website here, but be weary that the pre-order system is… a tad confusing..

..Would I be able to get all the DLC in one package please?

We personally can’t wait for this to drop, and are excited to see how this collection is implemented come June! Let us know what you think in the comments below!
