House of the Dead Remake Released on Switch

The House of the Dead is one of the most well-known light gun shooters that was ported from the arcades to the Saturn, and now audiences have access to it on a modern platform with the release of a remake yesterday, April 7, 2022, on Nintendo Switch.

The remake, developed by Forever Entertainment’s subsidiary MegaPixel, recreates the arcade original from the ground up. While retaining the original gameplay and level layouts, it sports completely new graphics as well as different music and voice acting.

It allows players to use the Joycons’ gyroscopes to aim the targeting reticule, use the gyroscopes in addition to D-pad aiming for fine-tuned adjustments, or use only the D-pad, which is essential for Switch Lite players.

The remake brings a few new features to the table: a 3D model viewer that details enemy weak points, a photo mode, a horde mode, several selectable difficulty options and online leaderboards.

The House of the Dead Remake is available on the eShop for a limited-time 10 percent discount here.

Alternatively, a physical edition is being printed by Forever Limited and can be preordered here.

Forever Entertainment developed and published a remake of Saturn exclusive Panzer Dragoon in 2020 for modern platforms including the Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam.

They’ve announced plans to remake the sequels to Panzer Dragoon and House of the Dead, as well as Magical Drop 6, which would be the latest in a line of puzzle games that saw three entries on the Saturn in Japan.
