In the mid-’90s, NEXT GENERATION Magazine, also known as “EDGE” in the UK, brought loads of insightful news and industry coverage to the average gaming consumer. From developer interviews to industry projections, NEXT remained virtually unbiased in its reporting of gaming news, and it remains one of the greatest examples of games journalism.
NEXT saw the Saturn rise and fall in the west, and it reported on all of it (perhaps) better than any other publication out there. Here, we present the Saturn’s entire story, as told through the pages of NEXT GENERATION. We have picked out every single news article, interview, review, ad and more relating to the ill-fated console, and in some cases, we even sprinkled in some news regarding its competitors where context is needed.
Here, you can DOWNLOAD the entire 1.2GB .CBZ (comic reader) version consisting of all high-resolution scans.
Here, you can DOWNLOAD a reduced 500MB .PDF version that is half the resolution, but still quite readable.
Below, you will find slides of each issue, documenting Saturn’s life in chronological order, through the pages of NG. These are intended as a visual quick reference for easy browsing…

Absolutely! Enjoy!
Thank you so much for this. Next Gen and EGM we’re two of my favorite gaming mags in the 90s. While EGM was loaded with great content that was fun to browse through, Next Gen offered a lot more depth and insight with their articles – in my opinion, of course. I have the issue detailing Sega’s console history, which I still treasure.
