SHIRO! Podcast Retrospective: Season 1: Episode 1

Welcome to this new series of articles we are putting together to celebrate, and look back on our previous podcast episodes!

SHIRO! SHOW Recap

Many of our newer fans have been introduced to us though SHIRO! Show, and many not knowing we even have a podcast! So we’ve decided to put together a little retrospective on our older episodes, and give our thoughts on what we thought then, vs what we think now.

Patrick: “I Initially reached out to Dave about starting a Saturn Podcast. I was super into The Dreamcast Junkyard’s DreamPod, and wanted to put that much passion into a system I was getting really into at the time, the Sega Saturn. Once Dave was on board, we reached out to find a third to balance us out. We initially reached out to one of the Admins on the Sega Saturn Collectors of America Facebook group who Dave was friends with, but sadly he bowed out. We then reached out to Ke, who we’ve interacted with many times in various Sega Saturn communities, and he was super into the idea. We then set a date, and then everything was SHIRO! History! I look back fondly on the original podcast, even though I definitely sounded very amateurish and timid at the time, and had a very quiet mic. However, recording it was a blast, and Dave made the whole thing sound fantastic with his editing chops.”

Funny tidbits:
– Ke mentioned how Saga got ungodly expensive at $400-500. As of 2021, it’s reached around $1000+!
– Ke and Dave mentioned Hyper Duel around $500-$700. As of 2021, it has settled around $400-$500 still.
– Dave mentioned how he wanted Grandia on the Saturn, saying, “I want Grandia on Saturn, but nobody wants to do that”. Fast forward to 2019, and a fan translation of Grandia was released by TrekkiesUnite118.
– Pat mentioned potentially doing a, “Shit Showdown” podcast, which we kinda did with Horribad Halloween Games in 2020.
