Taisen Link Cable Support Unlocked for The North American DOOM Release On Saturn

SHIRO! SHOW Recap

Once again (Twice in one week), friend of the cast Mr^Burns made us aware of a new development in regards to the Sega Taisen (Link) Cable.

Both Doom on Saturn in Japan and Europe had support for the Taisen Cable, but for some unknown reason, was made inaccessible for the North American Region of the game.

Mattfrie1 on the Doom World forums, found the area in code that handles the main menu selection, and when he set a single value, it put the game into Link Mode.

He was not able to test this on actual hardware yet, due to not having a Taisen Cable or the game. The areas in memory that house the info on the multiplayer link mode (Such as Frag count and other options), are still there, so he believes it should theoretically work.

The Action Replay codes to enable the Link Mode are in the post here

WadArchive in the thread said he tried it out, but tried using a PAL and NA copy to link, which seemed to freeze the game on him.

Let us know if you’re able to try it out, and if you got a match going on some North American Saturns!
