Essential to their key strategy will be the effort to turn existing IPs into more global brands (ie. pushing Sonic in Japan and PSO 2 in the US). They also site the creation of a “Super Game”, defined as a title that can be expanded upon globally, which suggests a completely NEW IP.., something we’ll have to keep an eye out for… And lastly, they look to expand upon their past IP libraries by revisiting old but familiar franchises.

Key Strategies

SEGASammy’s said “Super Game” apparently is to be a new FPS game created at their European studio that will utilize existing IP assets and is projected to roll out in the next 3 to 5 years. This sounds like we could have a Splatoon clone on our hands consisting of a complete cast of SEGA characters… Only time will tell…

Could this “Super Game” be a SEGA branded Splatoon clone?

Months ago, SEGASammy reached out to ardent fans (myself included), conducting a survey to determine what franchises the fans wanted to see in future releases. The following is apparently the conclusion they came to based on all the data collected… I, for one, am very pleased to see NiGHTS on the list of “dormant IPs” considered for utilization.

While their specific plans for each one of these IPs is not clear, they do site the following paths:
1. REMASTER (conversion of old IPs to HD) – We’ve seen a lot of this over the past several years.
2. REMAKE (new features/engine w/original gameplay) – Panzer & HotD series are good examples.
3. REBOOT (jump start an old franchise w/new game) – Fingers crossed for a REAL NiGHTS game!!!

While it’s certainly exciting to speculate on what all of this means, we will have to stand by and watch for developments, which we will report on as they surface.
