Forever Entertainment, the same company behind the recent Panzer Dragon Remake, released this trailer online showing off The House of the Dead Remake.
It shows a few teaser shots of fresh HD zombie models lurking around the titular house. In what appears to be direct game capture, a cursor shoots the undead as they lunge straight for the player. Then, in a room surrounded by lush swampy overgrowth, an all new Dr. Roy Curien says, “I must compliment you. I didn’t think you could make it this far. However, this is it.” It sounds as if the voice acting will not disappoint hardcore fans of the series.
The description on YouTube says this remake will provide, “Hordes of the undead monstrosities in a fast-paced rail-shooter. True to the original gameplay. Well-known arcade classic with modern graphics and controls. Multiple endings. 1-2 players.”
This trailer does not show a potential release date or timeline. It does not confirm or deny if this will get released on platforms other than the Nintendo Switch.
Panzer Dragoon Remake was a timed exclusive for the Switch when it first released in March of 2020. Over the following months, ports for the game gradually came out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam and even Google Stadia. Overall, the game received mixed reception from fans (as most remakes do.) Many loved the fresh look and modern controls of Panzer Dragoon Remake, while others believe it strayed too far from the Sega Saturn original.
Sega Saturn, Shiro! interviewed one of the developers at Forever Entertainment leading up to the release of Panzer Dragoon Remake. You can check out our chat with Benjamin Anseaume by clicking here.
The House of the Dead first arrived at arcades in 1997. A port of the game came out for the Sega Saturn in Japan on March 26th, 1998. It released in Europe that same year on April 10th according to Computer and Video Games magazine, and in North America on May 5th. This makes it the fifth to last game released in North America according to my list of Sega Saturn release dates.
