Our SHIRO! Community Challenge for July 2024 is underway, as several members drift their way to prizes and the title of “TOUGE KING” in our latest High Velocity Mountain Racing Challenge!!!
That’s right! We’re tackling the alpine drifting classics High Velocity: Mountain Racing Challenge (Touge King: The Spirits) and its sequel, the Japanese exclusive “Touge King: The Spirits 2!” These racers will test your line control, and see you linking turns & praying you caught the clipping point…
With 12 events & 17 prizes up for grabs, you don’t want to miss this one! So let’s see who among you is the true King of the Mountain!

CONTEST DATES: JULY 1 – 31
RULES:
- Real Sega Saturn Hardware Only (ODEs allowed)
- No Emulation, No Action Replay or Pseudo Saturn Cheats
- Events are “Time Trial”/“Time Attack”, default settings, turn right/clockwise, unless otherwise stated
- Car Types A-F (High Velocity); Car Types A-D (Touge King 2)
- Tuning permitted on Turn Left/Anticlockwise courses
- Any season/time of day/condition permitted in Touge King 2
- Photographic evidence of the rankings screen is mandatory
- Submissions to Speedrun.com encouraged
- Event organizers reserve the right to request video evidence

- Course C – Clockwise & Anticlockwise (Tuning) (24-31 Jul)

The goal of these monthly challenges is to bring more attention and love to some of the lesser known/low profile Saturn games out there, and it we can already see folks in the community engaging with these titles for the first time in a very positive way!
Both High Velocity & Touge King 2 appear to be games with great support for the Saturn Arcade Racer (steering wheel), so folks have brought out and dusted off their wheels in order to take gold in this month’s challenge!
Just 3 days into the challenge, and we’ve had a very good showing so far. Here are the 3-day standings:
A massive Saturn fan since Christmas ’96, Dave is enthusiastic about growing the community and spreading Saturn love and knowledge to fans old and new. Co-founding the SEGA SATURN, SHIRO! podcast back in 2017 and creating the SHIRO! SHOW in 2020, he seeks to create interesting and engaging Saturn-related content for the community. Dave’s interests circle around game preservation, and he is a huge fan of game magazines and developer interviews.
